Greg Minnaar’s signature tyre. The Maxxis Assegai tyre is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa therefore thought it was a fitting name for a tyre ready to do battle on the mountain.

The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, but also offer support and confidence on wet roots and rocks. While other tyres excel only in certain conditions, the Maxxis Assegai is built to go fast everywhere.

Add a matching E50 Minion DHR II tyre to the rear for the complete E-MTB setup.

E50 certification for e-bike use:

• All tyres in the E50 E-MTB range pass EU regulation – ECE-R75 certificate. ECE-R75 is a certification given to tyres that pass stringent safety regulations governed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Due to the increased load, torque and speed of e-bikes, they are classified under the ECE as mopeds in Europe which are governed at 50 km/h and must pass more stringent guidelines than standard bicycle tyres.

3C MaxxGrip:

• 3C MaxxGrip uses the softest rubber compounds to offer generally the ultimate in grip and slow rebound properties for unparalleled traction in downhill applications.

Downhill (DH) Casing:

• Two layers of casing material are used from bead to bead. Providing additional protection and sidewall stiffness specifically for downhill applications.

Tubeless Ready:

• Tubeless tyre provide the rider with many benefits. The ability to run lower air pressures, which generally improves traction. Lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tyre and less chance of flatting because there is no tube. Liquid sealants should only be used in the following types of tyre: tubeless road, tubular, and tubeless ready.

Wide Trail:

• Wide Trail (WT) construction optimises the tyre’s tread layout and profile on today’s modern, wider rims. Traditional tyres are designed around older, narrower rims and can create an overly square tyre profile, leading to less than optimal performance. WT tyres are optimised for a 35mm inner rim width but are proven to work over a range from 30-35mm inner rim widths, depending on the rider’s preference.
