DMR Deathgrip2

What is new with the DMR Deathgrip2?

The DMR Deathgrip is without a doubt one of the most popular grips in the MTB scene. Designed by Brendan Fairclough and Olly Wilkins nearly 10 years ago, it has become the go to choice for pros and bros around the glove. The grip has also had a dramatic impact on other designs from competing brands. Most of the new grips from other popular component brands all have a very Deathgrip like tone to them, further clarifying the popularity of their design.

Shortly after the launch of the grips followed Deathgrip the movie. An instant MTB classic, staring none other than Brendog himself but joined by some of the best riders on the planet. The film was hugely successful and added to the popularity of the grips.

Now 7 years on, Deathgrip2 the movie is coming. Or should I say is here, today! Brendan has been working on the follow up for sometime and is highly anticipated among the MTB scene. But quietly behind the scenes, a new grip has also been in development…

So what is new with DMR the Deathgrip2? Well, actually not a lot. The grip is vastly the same but with some key updates and improvements over the original design. The grip still retains the same diamond top pattern, waffle finger grippers and mushroom thumb pad. Three compounds are also still available, being Soft, Firm and Race. Updates have been made to the lockring, end cap and flange. See below for the full details:

DEATHGRIP2 SLIMLINE COLLAR

The lock-on collar has been significantly reduced in width, this allow for more room on your cockpit and better positioning of gear/brake levers etc… The grip is still held with this single collar and has a torque rating of 2nm. This also contributes to the lighter weight of the grip.

NEW END CAPS

This is a key update to the original grips, the new injection moulded end cap is much tougher. It was common to see Deathgrips with broken ends, either from crashes, clipping trees, drop the bike etc… It was easy to bust the ends. The new harder end cap should help avoid this. Just remember to full push the grip onto the handlebar.

NEW FLANGE DESIGN AND RED COLLARS FOR RACE

For those that are fans of the flange design that provides the extra clamp protection. The design of the flange has been improved offering more relief over the collar. New logos also improve the look as is no longer plain. Pictured here are also the red collars available on the Race super soft edition.
